Study visit in Sweden to exploring global experiences in women's economic and political empowerment

The effectiveness of “Winnet Armenia” Network's continuous efforts toward women's economic and political empowerment in Armenia is rooted in the assimilation and application of successful international experiences and policies. A pivotal learning opportunity for the newly established centers emerged through the study visit to Sweden organized by UNFPA Armenia in May 2023. This initiative was carried out under the auspices of the EU-funded “Future Today: Empowering Women, Youth, and Children for Strengthening Democracy in Armenia” project.
In Stockholm, the participants of the study visit met with representatives of the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida).
This study visit offered the new member organizations of “WINNET Armenia” Network a valuable opportunity to acquire information, expand networks, enhance productivity, and foster a culture of ongoing learning and improvement," stated Ruzanna Torozyan, President of the network.
On May 22-24, the members of the “WINNET Armenia” Network met with representatives of several local organizations in Malmo, Sweden, who shared their successful experiences in social entrepreneurship and women's economic and political empowerment.
The Department of Eastern Europe and Central Asia at the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs outlined its gender equality priorities in Sweden and globally, discussing funding opportunities in Armenia. Furthermore, the participants were acquainted with the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA)'s ongoing programs in Armenia and potential collaboration prospects.
Throughout the study visit, the members of the newly established centers met with Lili André, member of the Swedish Parliament and member of the Regional Development and Business Committee, as well as representatives of the Swedish Institute, Office of the Swedish Ambassador for the Eastern Partnership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency and ForumCiv, the coordinating organization of the Eastern Partnership network.
"The study tour in Sweden unveiled successful strategies for empowering women and fostering women's social entrepreneurship. Armed with this knowledge, WINNET aims to amplify its impact and advance women's empowerment in Armenia. We're optimistic that this will pave the way for new initiatives promoting women's empowerment and gender equality in the country," emphasizes Eduard Israelyan, Future Today Project Manager at UNFPA Armenia.
The meetings conducted in Malmö offered an excellent opportunity for the network's newly established centers to acquaint themselves with Winnet Sweden's members and beneficiaries, experiences, activities of various social enterprises, and foster new partnerships with similar social enterprises.
"This visit has been an immense source of enthusiasm and connection for our newly established centers. It provided us with an opportunity to delve into the activities, best practices, and challenges of organizations sharing the same field. This will significantly contribute to enhancing the growth, efficiency, and competitiveness of our organizations," says Hasmik Khachatryan, a member of “WINNET Gyumri” Women and Youth NGO.
